Swing Dresses

Swing Dresses

Swing dresses were a popular retro and pin up style in the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s. Women would wear them to school in a more formal way, out dancing or out with friends in a fun and playful way, and even to semi formal events as a fun dress up outfit.

Swing dresses were mostly worn for dancing, as the skirt was designed to flow with the steps, creating fun illusions with a variety of skirts on the dance floor. Swing dresses are typically modest, falling at or below the knees. The tops come in a variety of styles, ranging from long-sleeved turtlenecks to short-sleeved collared button-down shirts to plunging halter tops. Whether you’re looking to cover up or show off some skin, swing dresses have everything. Pair them up with some nylons or seamed pantyhose in the fall or winter, and for a casual look, go for a pair of penny loafers. For a little sex appeal, add in some sky-high stiletto heels and wear a button up cardigan over the halter to stay warm.

One reason so many women love swing dresses is because they can be worn by women of all ages, shapes and sizes. Curvy women, petite women, voluptuous women and small framed women can all find styles that flatter their natural assets, enhancing their curves and drawing attention to their hips, chest and waist. Remember, wearing swing dresses is definitely not for the faint of heart. Swipe on some red lipstick and don’t be afraid to hit the dance floor. That’s what the skirt is for, so flaunt what you’ve got and have fun!
