Greaser Girls Fashion

Greaser Girls Fashion

Greaser girls fashion is inspired by fun, fearless women of the 1940s, 1950s, and 1960s who weren’t afraid to get down and dirty in the garage with the guys. Greaser girls were often seen working in the shop on a Mustang engine, or waving the checkered flag at the start and finish of a drag race. Greaser girls fashion incorporates classic mechanic jumpsuits, high-cut shorts, tied up button-down shirts, work boots, and tennis shoes to create outfits that are functional for working hard, but also cute and sexy to stay true to the pin up girl and rockabilly style of the eras.

Model: Bernie Dexter, Photo: Levi Dexter

Greaser girls fashion is still worn today by women who love incorporating the style into their everyday rockabilly, pin up, or vintage look. Whether it’s a pair of Dickie’s overalls, a checkered and knotted top, or a sexy hair band designed to keep your curls and bangs out of your face, greaser girls fashion incorporates all of these pieces into the look.Fortunately, you don’t have to rummage through thrift or vintage stores to find greaser girls fashion. There are plenty of shops across the Internet that cater to these styles including Grease, Gas, and Glory, Tarantula Clothing, Retro Kitten Apparel, Damaged Glamour Boutique, Hell Bunny, Tokyo Motor Grrrl, Get Go Retro, and Tres Noir Rockabilly Sunglasses. Each of these boutiques offers clothing, shoes, and accessories that combine perfectly to create a sexy, fun, and functional greaser girls fashion look.all shops and brands

Greaser girls fashion isn’t for the faint of heart, either. Many styles were originally designed for women who truly loved working on cars in the auto shop, so it’s more for function as opposed to style. However, many women who loved working on cars also loved being fashionable, so over time, many greaser girls fashion styles have evolved into essential wardrobe pieces that are fun and functional without compromising safety or style.

For true greaser girls fashion, wear your favorite pair of jeans or Dickie’s and pair it with a checkered button-down shirt tied at the belly button. Wrap your hair up in a bandana in your favorite print to protect your face, and you’ll be good to go for a day at the mechanic shop without compromising style.

Tres Noir Rockabilly Sunglasses

Tres Noir Rockabilly Sunglasses

Tres Noir is a sunglasses brand started by two brothers who wanted to create real, one of a kind sunglasses designs. They took classic American styles that are typically channeled in pin up, retro and rockabilly looks and turned them into functional pieces that are completely unique in the marketplace.

Their main objective was to create retro styles of sunglasses that were high quality and affordable, and through this passion they created Tres Noir Handmade Optics.

Each frame in Tres Noir is handmade individually from acetate, and the styles are not mass produced. They are inspired by classic Americana culture, with heavy influence stemming from music and lowbrow art, particularly rockabilly styles. The first collection was introduced to the public in spring 2006, running out of a garage in Long Beach, California.

Little did the brothers know that the reaction would be so positive and the demand would soon become overwhelming. They launched another collection in 2007, moving to a warehouse in Orange County, California. The glasses can be seen on many musicians, scenesters and artists, making an unexpectedly huge impact on pop culture.

Greaser Girl

A sexy greaser girl typically wears fashion inspired by the pin up, rockabilly and retro fashion styles of the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s. Greaser girls are typically the women you see out at the drag races or hanging out with their men showing off their hot rod and posing for pictures.

They are sitting on the sidelines cheering on their man in his race, waving the checkered flag at the start or end of a race, and tinkering with mechanics in the garage, fixing up cars and polishing them to be shown off. A greaser girl loves the automobile and dressing sexy with a fun, flirty retro edge.

Greaser girl truly loves cars, but is also girly and feminine, so they seek to dress in a way that allows them to look cute and sexy without risking looking too much like a tomboy. Even if a greaser girl is working on her car in the garage, she’s wearing a tight fitted t-shirt to get dirty, a colorful wrap around her hair to keep it clean and out of her face, or colorful shoes and boots to protect her toes in the most fashionable way possible.

Clothing Rockabilly

Clothing Rockabilly

Clothing rockabilly typically channels styles worn by pin up and retro aficionados of the 1940s, 1950s, 1960s and even the 1970s. Bold leather styles, lace contrast, bright colors, ripped jeans, tattoos, colorful hair and Converse sneakers are just some of the many signature looks worn by a rockabilly fox or stud.

Clothing rockabilly started off as a trend when the rock ‘n roll era of music began. It mixed together country and rock music, and once the music made a boom in the era, the clothing started to reflect it as well. Many rockabilly looks are seen as “punk” or “rebellious,” straying from the more innocent play suits, sweater vests and skirts of men and women worn during these eras. Sweater vests were covered up by leather jackets and pedal pusher capri pants were replaced with ripped jeans. As the clothing rockabilly trend evolved, tattoos, bright colored hair and piercings all worked their way into playing a prominent role in the rockabilly look.

all shops and brands

If you’re loving the clothing rockabilly styles, don’t worry. You don’t have to dig through thrift stores or vintage shops to find a vintage band t shirt or pair of perfectly ripped jeans or buttered up leather jacket. The style has made a comeback, so there are hundreds of stores across the internet that sell a variety of clothing rockabilly. Yvonne’s Inked Divas and Gents, Miss Hussy Clothing, Stop Staring Clothing, Sourpuss Clothing, Lolita Girl Clothing, Starlets and Harlets, Dismantled Fashions and Whirlingturban are just some of the most popular and widely recognized clothing rockabilly boutiques that are coveted by rockabilly lovers all around the world.

Clothing rockabilly isn’t for one specific type of person. You don’t need to have piercings, tattoos or purple hair to jump into the era. Whether you’re young or “old,” petite or curvy, male or female, rockabilly is ideal for men and women everywhere. If you’ve got the confidence to pull off a leather jacket over a vintage band t shirt with studded accessories and your tattered Converse shoes, or if you love the thought of a skull-patterned fitted corset and skirt, you’re already all set for clothing rockabilly. Rock on and wear it with confidence!
